Glastonbury has a long tradition of being 'The Isle of Avalon' where King Arthur went after his last battle. The monks of Glastonbury Abbey claimed to have found his grave in 1191. Jesus is said to have come to Glastonbury as a boy, travelling here with Joseph of Arimathea.
The Glastonbury Festival itself is one of the biggest greenfield music and performing arts festival around the world. Incredibly Glastonbury is attended by around 200,000 people and takes place over 1500 acres of farmland. As you can imagine a beast of an event like this needs an extensive amount of security, transport, water and electricity supply.
Glastonbury also generates a few million pounds each year for charity benefiting organisations like Oxfam, WaterAid and Greenpeace.
