Big Green Apple can report that Sainsbury's black tea is now proudly Fairtrade.
Due to this exciting new commitment by Sainsbury's this will mean that both farmers and workers will earn an estimated £100.000 in Fairtrade Premium, with Sainsbury's likely to become the biggest retailer of Fairtrade tea here in the United Kingdom.
This agreement on tea further adds to the partnership between Sainsbury's and Fairtrade following the news previously that Sainsbury's had become the first UK retailer to take action in addressing the living wage gap in bananas 3 years ahead of the industry commitment.
Naturally, here at Team Big Green Apple we are excited at learning of this new agreement.
This agreement means Sainsbury's will convert all of its ' Sainsbury's black tea to Fairtrade. Excitedly, this change will have a massive positive impact on the people behind the Sainsbury's tea that we love, as well as having a positive impact on their families and local communities.
Calls are now being made for other organisations to join the likes of Sainsbury’s, alongside M&S, Co-op, Waitrose, Greggs and Clipper, in choosing Fairtrade certification for tea.
Going forward, collaborating with Sainsbury's to build a more sustainable tea sector can only be a 'win, win.'
Big Green Apple.....doing our bit for a more fairer and more sustainable world.
